Biography

Teitur. A one word name. From the Faroe Islands. There are almost no trees, just rocks, green pastures, beautiful views, wind and rain. Lots of rain. He is an artist whose music and lyrics remind you what songs can do for the soul.

Teitur’s 2003 debut album "Poetry & Aeroplanes" displayed a warm, organic sound combining his unique Acoustic Guitar playing and one take vocals with subtle, beautiful arrangements, winning over fans around the world as it was gradually released in over 12 countries. MTV "You Hear It First", VH1, CNN and iTunes were all early supporters of the album.

Teitur toured non-stop in support of his debut, initially playing intimate acoustic shows, slowly winning over bigger and bigger audiences as he fleshed out his live performances with a band and sometimes string quartet, playing over 350 shows around the world including more than 150 in North America. The gigs raised in size from a single radio programmer on a bus to an audience of over 50,000 at an event organized for European Royalty. Many artists became fans of Teitur, some of whom asked Teitur to tour with him, including John Mayer (he said: ‘Music like this is jet fuel on the fire of a broken heart’), Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Ray Lamontagne etc. Other fans include Gary Oldman, the actor.

In 2005, in between writing and demoing new songs, touring throughout Europe and guesting on a couple of other artists albums (including a duet on Ane Brun's multi platinum Norwegian album "Duets"), Teitur also managed to find the time to tour the US with super cool Aimee Mann in October 2005, a tour which he followed in June 2006 while performing in support in the US of the wonderful KT Tunstall, who heard his album and fell in love with it.

Leaving Universal in early 2006, Teitur partnered up with his manager to found their own label (Arlo and Betty Recordings - so named after his beloved pair of vintage Gibson acoustic guitars) and elected this time to license his albums to like minded labels around the world that share his musical vision and philosophies including newly formed Equator Music for all of North America.

To record his second album Teitur enlisted the help of London based, Swedish producer Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, A-Ha, Ron Sexsmith and new UK No.1 act James Morrison) to produce the album at Martin's retro cool Kensaltown Studios in London.

The result of the recordings is the stunning album "Stay Under The Stars", a dynamic and well crafted collection of songs reflecting Teitur's unique view on stories, situations and life as well as his newer, fuller live sound and wider outlook on the world. The album debuted in the Top 10 in his home country of Denmark and was followed by a number of high profile performances at European festivals such as Les Eurokeenes Festival in France and Benicassim in Spain where he played with a dazzling 10 piece Orchestra! During the Autumn/Winter, the album was released in the USA, Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland with tours in all those countries to support the album, finishing the year with a 1200 capacity sell out gig in Copenhagen.

The plans for 2007 include a Germany, Austria and Swiss tour in late January and early February; a North American tour mid February to early March, an appearance at SXSW mid March, a Scandinavian tour in early April and a UK tour soon after.

Teitur also featured as a guest vocalist on cool Scandinavian artist Tobias Froberg’s album ‘Somewhere In The City’; as well as writing a song on Corrine Bailey Rae's worldwide smash debut album.
